Veneer Installation

Aesthetic Tooth Restoration

Before we dive deeper into aesthetic tooth restoration, let’s clarify the difference between veneers, laminates, and lumineers. Why are there multiple names for the same service?

  • Veneer is a specially crafted dental overlay with a thickness of 2 mm or more. It allows for the correction of tooth shape and color imperfections. Veneers are made to match the shape and color of the patient’s teeth, as well as their personal preferences.
  • Laminates is another name for veneers.
  • Lumineers are essentially the same as veneers/laminates but made using a patented technology from the USA (Cerinate “Lumineers”). Typically, lumineers are thinner, close to the thickness of a contact lens (up to 0.3 mm), and are designed for minimal correction of damaged enamel or tooth contour.

Though the names vary, they all serve the same purpose: restoring the beauty of teeth, eliminating defects, and creating a personalized, striking smile.

Types of Veneers

  • Porcelain/Ceramic Veneers
These are created in specialized labs after a precise mold or scan of the prepared teeth is taken. While the permanent veneers are being crafted, temporary veneers are placed. Once the custom veneers are ready, they are fixed to the patient’s teeth using special bonding materials (cement).
  • Composite Veneers
Made from composite materials, these veneers are quicker and cheaper to produce. However, like standard fillings, they can change color over time and are much less durable than ceramic veneers.

Indications for Veneers

Typically, patients seek aesthetic restoration when dealing with the following issues:

  • Chips from mechanical damage
  • Darkened enamel after nerve removal
  • Trauma or partial tooth destruction
  • Old fillings
  • Stains from smoking, coffee/tea, or wine consumption
  • To achieve a “Hollywood” smile

At the “ProSmile” clinic, we can help you address these issues using modern aesthetic dental techniques.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Quickly enhances the appearance of teeth
  • Accurately mimics natural tooth properties
  • Allows for color change (from natural to ultra-white)
  • Ceramic veneers maintain color stability over time with proper hygiene
  • Long-lasting results

Disadvantages:

While aesthetic restoration offers many benefits, there are minor downsides. Porcelain (ceramic) veneers can chip, and composite veneers can break, detach, or discolor. However, these issues generally arise only from mechanical damage and can always be repaired.

Once a veneer is placed, the tooth cannot be restored to its original state, as a thin layer of enamel is removed during preparation.

Benefits of Veneers

  • Easy Maintenance: They do not require special care—just maintain regular oral hygiene.
  • Color Stability: They do not discolor from coffee, tea, or wine.
  • Durability: Veneers are firmly attached to the teeth, providing peace of mind during meals. Your smile remains flawless in all situations.
  • Versatility: We recommend veneers for various aesthetic corrections, as they can address multiple issues.

Installation and Treatment Process

For your comfort, all procedures can be done under local anesthesia.

  1. Initial Consultation: Primary impressions (molds) and photos are taken. The technician designs the new smile using computer software and creates a prototype.
  2. Second Visit: A mold is taken from the prototype, and it is transferred to the patient’s teeth using special fast-curing plastic. This allows the patient to see the new smile on their own teeth before any preparation (shaping) is done. Corrections are made if necessary, and the model is approved and photographed.
  3. Tooth Preparation: If the patient is satisfied, the teeth are prepared by minimally removing enamel (in some cases, no preparation is needed). The final mold or scan of the teeth is sent to the lab for custom veneer production. Temporary veneers are placed, so the patient does not leave with prepared or sensitive teeth.
  4. Final Fitting: Once the veneers are ready, the patient comes in for fitting. If the shape and color are satisfactory, the veneers are permanently fixed. If adjustments are needed, photos and videos are sent to the lab for corrections. Veneers are always fixed only after the patient’s approval.

Veneers are simple to install and maintain, making them extremely popular!
